Horse Tack

Horse Tack is the equipment used by horse keepers, which is helpful in keeping their equines under control and using them for certain purposes. This equipment includes harnesses, bridles, ropes, stirrups, breastplates, saddles and so forth. Since American Quarter Horses have been bred and trained for various activities, such as reining, racing, rodeo riding, barrel roping etc., they have to be tacked up in accordance with the designation.

All Quarter Horse owners must be well aware of the breed’s specifics and they should know for certain which type of activity their horses are better suited for. They should pick up Horse Tack in such a way as to make the horse feel comfortable in action. There are lots of items readily available on the market, but it takes a little bit of knowledge and skill to properly outfit a horse.

Being very intelligent and people-oriented, American Quarter Horses have a way of getting used to Horse Tack very easily. They are strong and enduring, and can offer great help in cattle driving and other ranch work, to say nothing of equine sports and recreation. American Quarter Horses have gotten the best from the world’s most versatile equines, such as the English Thoroughbred, Standardbred, Morgan Arab, Barb, Chickasaw and the Turk. Today, American Quarter Horses are the sturdiest and most intelligent equines in the world. This is truly an American breed, and it has become part of the American culture.

American Quarter Horses are not very large, standing 12-14 hands tall at the withers. They are well muscled and heavy-boned, as they have passed through numerous ordeals and challenges down the path. These horses are renowned for their ever-burning desire to work and eagerness to please their owners. They are so intelligent that they may require minimal amount of Horse Tack, as they are capable of responding to the rider’s commands.

There are two main types of Quarter Horses – the Racing type and the Stock type. They differ in designation and, consequently, body builts. Racing Quarter Horses are relatively lean, and they have long legs, as they are bred with an emphasis on their speediness. Stock type Quarter Horses are more robust, and they are mostly bred for ranch work requiring physical activity. The type of a horse is a decisive factor in choosing the Horse Tack, since there are saddles, bridles, stirrups etc. specially designed for a certain activity.
